Hastings honored with Awana Citation award

DENVER - North Shore resident Paul Hastings traveled this April with a team from Grace Covenant Church in Austin to join more than 1300 high school students from around the nation for Summit 2007, the annual national conference for Awana's 24-7 Ministries. While there, Paul received his Awana Citation award, the culmination of 12 years of achievement in the Awana programs of Travis Oaks Baptist Church in Lago Vista and First Baptist Church of Jonestown.
In his final year of eligibility for Summit, he again entered the fine arts competitions in piano and in public speaking. For the fourth year in a row, Paul received a gold-level medal in piano, and this year he tied for first place overall in public speaking, making him the winner of a $500 college scholarship.
Near the end of the Summit conference he was also asked to present his competition speech again in the University of Denver's Magness Arena for the entire assembly of students and spectators gathered for the AwanaGames.
Paul is the son of Pat and Ganya Hastings and the grandson of Virginia Hastings, all of Lago Vista.
